Community Giving Campaign Speech:

Good morning and thank you for inviting me to speak about what it takes to develop a successful workplace giving campaign. We are all here today because we care and because we come from organizations led by caring people. We are all connected to individuals in our communities so that our communities continue to thrive and produce healthy and productive people. In a community, we feel connected, knowing that we matter to each other. We know that we need each other to make it work.

It's been said that "An essential part of a happy, healthy life is being of service to others." Albert Schweitzer echoed this when he said, "You must give some time to your fellow man. Even if it's a little thing, do something for others …something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it."

Sometimes we have to step back from the frenetic pace and constant state of flux in our lives to determine not so much where we are, but the direction in which we are moving. The journey is what really matters and makes the difference. Our personal journey has been to strengthen the communities in which we live. I am proud to say that the altruistic acts of a community spirit are evident in our employees. But, before I begin talking about how to organize a workplace giving campaign, I'd like you to understand the daunting task of implementing a campaign of this size and magnitude in a large, Fortune 100 company…

In closing, we all know that our community needs have not diminished. Our role is to help our employees help our communities. We are all connected to each other and as Freud once said, "We live in others, and they in us." We must take on the leadership role to inspire employees to act, presenting them with an array of giving choices. We are all in this together. Thank you.
